Casting call at Sesame Workshop

Acccording to Sesame Workshop's official site, the producers are searching for actors to play a new, recurring human character.  Judging by the list of qualifications, a long-time viewer like me might think the Workshop plans to replace Luis and Maria:

Male or female actor, 18-25, fluent in Spanish and English, comfortable with multiple Spanish dialects and accents. Good sense of humor. Must sing well. Actor should be comfortable with both physical and improvisational comedy. Actor should be warm, likable and engaging. Must be prepared to sing a cappella in Spanish and English.

Granted, Emilio Delgado (the actor playing Luis) is old enough for real-life grandchildren now; and Sonia Manzano (Maria's performer) also helps produce and write for the show that made her famous.  Neither fact automatically means that Sesame Street's leading Latinos will be dropped from fhe cast  anytime soon:  to use a similar example, Alaina Reed played Olivia on Sesame Street for twelve years without replacing Susan.  Both characters are outgoing, lively black women who enjoy singing and playing with toddlers; but Susan and Olivia were never interchangeable.  In the same spirit, I hope that the new cast member plays a character just as memorable and engaging as the classic ones -- without replacing anyone outright.

Cookie Monster - Share It Maybe

I thought this song was really funny.  I love parody songs like "Weird Al" Yankovic.  I also REALLY don't like the original version of this song.  At the same time it also shows how much Sesame Street has gone downhill.  In the classic days they could make music sound similar while still keeping it original like The Sesame Street Beetles or Bruce Stringbean.  What do you guys think???????

Classic Sesame Street Cover: "Up Goes The Castle"

Normally, a guided meditation on breath control is something adults expect to hear on a New Age yoga CD...not an old Sesame Street album.  Hearing this song, with its kid-friendly imagery and story, might change those people's minds though!  I discovered this fan-made performance while uploading my own clips to YouTube...if anyone can tell me which album the original version was on, I'd appreciate that a lot.  Thank you!

Robin Gibb Of The Bee Gees and Sesame Street Fever Has Died

I am saddened to say that today Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees has died.  In the Sesame Street world he performed on the Sesame Street Fever  LP.  He will surely be missed.  Here he is on Sesame Street Fever.

Sharing: OK on Sesame Street, not OK online!

If you're wondering where all the album and song downloads have vanished to, BigBirdFan (who co-owns this blog with me) has asked me to delete those links permanently.  Some of the album postings earned him a copyright-violation warning, which would force us to shut down if the Feds took the next step.  If you want to get hold of Sesame Street music legitimately, I urge you to buy from an official site like iTunes or AmazonMP3.  We'll still post links to short video clips on YouTube, since most of them meet fair-use requirements....don't expect whole episodes or feature-length movies here, but at least you can get your nostalgia fix a few minutes at a time.
